LIBRARY NEWS Bendiner Library Now Accredited! The BIG news is that Temple Beth-Els Bendiner Library was awarded accreditation by the Association of Jewish Libraries (AJL)! We are proud to be in the company of only 72 other Jewish Libraries of note, and we thank Marlene Reynolds for her major role in this accomplishment. Some of our recent additions to the Library include the revised edition of Barry K Barnes Ethical Wills. The ethical will is an ancient tradition for passing on personal values, beliefs, blessings, and advice to family members and to future generations. The book includes important information on living wills as well. It provides practical and inspirational advice on creating both of these powerful documents. This book is your guide to ensuring that what you hold most dear is "on the record," not to be lost or forgotten. It also includes advice on when to distribute both ethical and living wills. We also have Julian Stuart Habers book, They Were Soldiers in Peace and War. Those who read it will get great pleasure in knowing the contributions of Jewish Americans from the Revolutionary War through World War II and to the current conflict in the Middle East. Silent Places: Landscapes of Jewish Life and Loss in Eastern Europe, with photographs and text by Jeffrey Gusky, is a collection of images that, with melancholy beauty and emotional depth, provides a glimpse of the past. Gusky made four trips to Poland, traveling through the country, beyond the city ghettos and the sites of concentration camps, to remote villages where Jews had lived and worked for almost one thousand years before the Holocaust. He captured on film the austere landscapes and the remains of a once thriving Jewish culture. |
