Temple Beth-El's Response to Infectious Diseases

In August, 2009, Temple Beth-El's Health Task Force, chaired by Board member Michael Malinas, developed this response to infectious diseases:

It is very important to use effective hygiene procedures in order to reduce the spread of infectious diseases.

You’ll be seeing lots of bottles of hand sanitizer that should be used whenever the need arises.

Remember, washing with soap and water is just as effective as using hand sanitizers.

Parents, please go over effective hand washing techniques with your children, especially the younger ones.

Most form of influenza, including H1N1 (the swine flu) are spread through the air.  Please remember to “catch your sneeze” in your elbow or your hands if you can’t get to a tissue quickly enough.  It’s really important to teach and re-teach your children how to cough or sneeze without getting it all over their friends.

Don’t come to the Temple or bring your children to the Temple if you or they have symptoms of the flu.  If you or your children have had the flu, please be symptom free for 24 hours before coming to the Temple.

Even if everyone does everything right, your children may end up getting sick while at Religious School.  We will notify you if your child is sick and needs to be picked up.  Please come and get your child as quickly as possible.  Not only do your children need the solace of being at home with you, but their presence at the temple only increases the chance of the spread of infection.

We will post information about any closures of the Temple on this Website.  This could include religious school closures or even worship services.

The Centers for Disease Control has recommended that everyone get vaccinated for seasonal flu  The vaccine for H1N1 is being produced and probably won’t become available until mid October.  The CDC will issue guidelines about which groups should receive the vaccine first.
