2002 Temple Beth-El Humane Society Mitzvah Project

On Christmas Day 2002, 38 members of Temple Beth-El, many of them children, volunteered at the Humane Society/SPCA of Bexar County cleaning kennels and cages, feeding and playing with the animals, and walking the dogs. Even though the Humane Society was closed to the public, the shelter pets still needed care and exercise. By donating their time to care for the animals that day, Temple Beth-El volunteers enabled the Humane Society staff to spend Christmas with their families for the very first time.

“The staff was very appreciative,” says Cathy Rosenthal, director of community relations for the Humane Society and member of Temple Beth-El. “They came in on the 26th and were very impressed at how clean the kennels were. They said it was the best gift they could have received.”

The Temple volunteers worked from 9:00 A.M. to 12:00 noon on Christmas Day at the Humane Society, located at 4804 Fredericksburg Rd. The volunteers were as follows:
