Building Committee Selects Architect

With the success of the “Building on Tradition” Capital Campaign, Building Committee Co-chairs Elliott Z. Cohen and Harry H. Levy, IV have announced the selection of Marmon Mok Architects of San Antonio as project architects for the proposed renovations and additions to our magnificent Temple.

The architectural selection process was long and arduous. The Committee solicited proposals from six architectural firms. Four responded with proposals for the Committee’s review.

The Committee reviewed these proposals in detail, and each of the four firms was interviewed. Two firms were then selected for further review. After the second set of interviews, the Committee had to make the extremely difficult choice of one firm: Marmon Mok Architects of San Antonio.

Marmon Mok has almost fifty years of experience in the San Antonio community. They have won numerous design awards, and have designed many well-known projects in the area. They were the project architects for the recent renovation and expansion of First Presbyterian Church, as well as producing the design for renovation and addition to St. Mark’s Episcopal Church. Both of these projects are similar in scope to ours, and both report very positive experiences with Marmon Mok.

Marmon Mok’s partner-in-charge for our project is Temple member, Dror Baldinger. “We are proud of the heritage of our firm and the contribution that we have made to the San Antonio community. We would be honored to have the privilege of serving Temple Beth-El in realizing our dreams as we renew and expand our facilities,” said Mr. Baldinger.

Marmon Mok will build on the magnificent foundation laid in the Master Plan, prepared by Temple member Dan Wigodsky.

An additional component of Marmon Mok’s team is MS2, Inc. Consulting Engineers, led by principal, Stephen Kovner, another Temple member. Kovner’s firm will be responsible for the mechanical, electrical, and plumbing portions of our project, including air conditioning...no small task!
