Construction to Begin on June 4

The wait is almost over! After three years of planning, meeting, challenges, and hard work, we will commence our construction project on June 4. The Building Committee has been hard at work meeting with our architects and engineers on a bi-weekly (and sometimes weekly) basis to continue to refine and improve our drawings.

The Interiors Subcommittee, led by LuAnn Cohen and Janet Westheimer, has diligently collaborated with our interior designers in selecting colors and finishes for all of the spaces within the building. Almost all of the finishes have been selected with the objective of maintaining a wonderful consistency from one area to the next. The results of their work promise to be quite pleasing!

Our General Contractor, SpawGlass (with input from the Building Committee), has selected Mission Plumbing and Heating to be our mechanical contractor and Cappadonna Electric our electrical contractor. Very soon, our final team will be in place and ready to begin work on June 4.

The groundbreaking ceremony on Sunday, May 20, which is the last day of Religious School, should to be a meaningful and fun celebration. Any items that will not be incorporated into our newly renovated Temple when we return will be placed into the Barshop Auditorium for a huge “Garage Sale” on June 3. If you ever wanted a student desk of your own, now is your chance! Stay tuned to your mail for more details.

Beginning on June 4, the major focus of our construction will be on the Sanctuary, though no major structural changes will be made. Our aim is to brighten and reinvigorate our sacred space, while maintaining its architectural integrity. The pews will be refurbished and the beautiful decorative painting carefully restored.

While the work within the Sanctuary is underway, our mechanical and electrical contractors will be hard at work at replacing the antiquated electrical and air conditioning systems that support the Sanctuary.

The next few months will be quite busy for all of us associated with the building and reconstruction of our beautiful Temple. Your Building Committee hopes that your patience, understanding and excitement will exist in great abundance during the next few months as we deal with the beginning of this project. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact either of your co-chairs, Harry Levy or Elliott Cohen.

Harry H. Levy, IV
Temple President
