Temple Beth-El Sisterhood Constitution and By-Laws

Article I - Name
The name of this organization shall be the TEMPLE BETH-EL SISTERHOOD.
Article II - Purpose
Its objects shall be to advance the cause of Judaism, to cooperate with Temple Beth-El and its Religious School and to aid in the promotion of the program of theWomen of Reform Judaism.
Article III - Membership
Sec. 1. Any woman interested in the purpose of this organization shall be eligible
for membership.
Sec. 2. The Rabbi’s and their wives shall be honorary members; the latter to have
full voting privileges.
Sec. 3. Members will be required to pay annual dues.
Sec. 4. Members failing to pay dues for two consecutive years will be dropped from the membership list after due notification.
Article IV- Officers
Sec. 1. The officers of this organization shall be: President, at least four (4) Vice-
Presidents, Recording Secretary, Corresponding Secretary, Treasurer and
Financial Secretary.
Sec. 2. The officers and directors of this organization shall be elected at the
regular April Meeting.
Sec. 3. There shall be at least six (6) Directors, three (3) to be elected annually for
a term of two (2) years, and eligible for one ( 1) re-election.
Sec. 4. No officer shall fill the same position for more than two (2) consecutive years.
Sec. 5. Any elected officer of the Sisterhood, or a member of her immediate family,
shall be a member of the Congregation.
Sec. 6.A. The nominating committee shall consist of five (5) members, two (2) of
whom shall be elected from the Board of Directors at the first Board
Meeting and three (3) of whom shall be elected from the general
membership at the first general meeting. The members of the nominating
committee shall select their chairman. This committee shall serve on a
year-round basis, presenting nominees at the next meeting of the Board of
Directors following any vacancies that occur.
Sec. 6.B. This committee shall present the slate of officers at the March meeting.
Nominations from the floor will be in order at the April meeting.
Sec. 6.C. This committee shall present nominees of delegates for WRJ and District
Conventions.
Article V - Executive Committee
Sec. 1. The elected officers and the immediate Past President shall comprise the
Executive Committee.
Sec. 2. The President shall appoint the Parliamentarian, Historian, and Auditor.
Sec. 3. The President or appropriate Vice-President shall appoint the Chairman of
the Standing Committees.
Sec. 4. The Executive Committee shall be empowered to expend funds for necessary expenditures in case of emergency, at times when regular meetings are not held.
Sec. 5. The Sisterhood shall have Standing Committees corresponding (wherever feasible) to the Standing Committees of the Women of Reform
Judaism.
Article VI - Board of Directors
The Board of Directors shall be composed of the Past Presidents, Officers of the Sisterhood, at least six (6) Directors, Financial Secretary, Parliamentarian, Historian, Chairman or Co-Chairman of the Standing Committees, and the wives of the Rabbis.
Article VII - Meetings
Sec. 1. The Sisterhood shall meet on the last Tuesday of each month from
September to May unless otherwise stipulated.
Sec. 2. Meetings of the Board of Directors shall be at the call of the President or
upon the written request of five (5) members of the Board of Directors.
Sec. 3. Eleven (11) members shall constitute a quorum at meetings of the Board of
Directors. Thirty-five (35) members shall constitute a quorum at regular
monthly and annual meetings.
Sec. 4. The fiscal year shall be July 1 to June 30.
Article VIII · Conventions
Sec. 1. Only members in good standing are eligible to be delegates to the Women
of Reform Judaism conventions, both on a District and National level, with
approval by the Board of Directors.
Sec. 2. Transportation, meals, registration, and hotel expenses (semi-private) of
the President, District Director and District and/or W.R.J. Board members
to the WRJ and District Conventions and Board Meetings shall be paid by
our Sisterhood.
Sec. 3. As budget permits, expenses shall be paid by our Sisterhood for delegates
to the Women of Reform Judaism and District Conventions and Board
meetings.
Article IX · Amendments
This constitution may be amended at any regular meeting by a two-thirds (2/3) vote of the membership present after 30 days written advance notice.
Article X - By-Laws
This body shall be governed by Robert’s Rules of Order, Revised.
