Oomanut
by Courtney Silver
I'm new to teaching. I imagined all the fun art stuff I could show kids. I never realized the opposite is true. I am amazed and inspired by how much kids have to show me.
Tzofim (7th) and Melachim (8th) have just finished their personal mezuzot that resulted in some awesome creations. I think the kids are really proud of their sacred objects d'art and gave meaning to discovering who they are and who they are meant to be as Jews.
Special thanks to teachers and ma'asehs for your enthusiasm, ideas and assistance. It's a pleasure to work with you all.
Sometime each week, I'll pop into your class to see what great works of art you and your kids would like to share. I'm seeing a lot of clever ideas. Kol HaKavod to LaDina--marshmallow Tower of Babel, Jody—pretzel Noah's Ark, Jean--EcoArt rain sticks.
Our art supply inventory is growing. Here are a few additions: Hebrew alef-bet stamps, permanent markers, colorful cover and text weight paper (much more fun than construction paper).
To order art supplies, fax (492-6268) your request form two weeks in advance of your project date.

Yom Limmud Date Change

Yom Limmud will be held on April 28th, 2002, NOT April 21st 2002.  Please mark your calendars.   This was our mistake in making the yearly calendars not theirs and I do apologize for any inconvenience this may cause you.  Yom Limmud will be held at the Jewish Community Campus.  There will be no classes at SAC on this Sunday, but if you attend Yom Limmud you will be paid for this day of learning.

You guys are wonderful! !   I continue to enjoy all the activities that are happening as I walk through and see how you are all doing.  This week we had rain sticks in Bonim, Tower of Babel in Chalutzim, Modern Israeli Dance for Tzofim and Melachim, Shira filling the hallways, prayer maps in Dalet, and beautiful mezzuot being made in Melachim and Tzofim.  We had kids walking to the park to pick flowers and students reading stories in circles.  We had rabbi visits and plenty of activity during hafsaka, and best of all we had happy children getting into cars telling mom, dad, grandma, grandpa, aunt, uncle, or the carpool of the week about the neat things they are doing.  It is really exciting as you open doors and let kiddos in to hear them answer the age-old question, “So, what did you do today?”  And the answer is not, “Nothing,” or “I do not know.” Keep up the GREAT work! !

Just a reminder that there will be extra trash bags outside for hafsaka trash.  Please ask your class to police after themselves.
