Thanksgiving is coming right around the corner, but how will you as a teacher make this American holiday meaningful to your Jewish students? How about comparing different Thanksgiving traditions from around the world. Go to http://www.holidays.net/thanksgiving/story.htm and print out the different traditions used to celebrate. Compare that to the Jewish harvest holiday of Sukkot.
How about comparing the Jewish Exodus from Egypt to the Pilgrim's exodus from England? Check out this site, http://www.cl.uh.edu/itc/course/LITR/4333/expara.htm, for more information. Take out the prayer from the Amidah about Thanksgiving and analyze it and have your students write their own version.
Consider donating your tzedakah to Mazon. Mazon was founded in 1985. Mazon: A Jewish Response to Hunger is a national, nonprofit agency which allocates donations from the Jewish community to nonprofit organizations providing food, help and hope to hungry people of all faiths and backgrounds.
The Turkey, Thanksgiving's holiday bird, in Hebrew is a "Tar-ne-gol Hodu." The word "Hodu" is based on the same Hebrew root as "Ho-da-ya," which means Giving Thanks.

Progress Reports will be coming to you this Sunday, November 24. Please have them completed by the following Sunday, December 8. The goal of the Progress Report is not only to inform the parents of their child’s behavior in class, but also to inform the parents of what is being taught in class and what their child’s specific Judaic interests happen to be. Please be honest, constructive and informative. For suggestions on how to phrase your comments please, call me, email me or visit this website: http://www.teachnet.com/how-to/endofyear/personalcomments061400.html

Todah to all for helping run a very smooth Sunday in Avram’s absence. It is nice to know that you are all very supportive and helpful.
I had an opportunity to sit in on Rose Coste’s Bet class this past Sunday and enjoyed, as the students tore apart the words revelation, creation, and redemption to find their meanings. They then went to their siddurim and found the appropriate prayers. A couple of Rose’s students had an “ah ha” experience as they connected the words to prayers they have been saying. This was an excellent lesson.
While I was working on tefillot for Bonim through Tzedakim I came across a good website on Torah portions for young children. It was very good and very user friendly. You should check it out. www.akhlah.com . While sharing this site both Rabbi Tannenbaum and Susan Carvajal gave me two other sites. I checked them out and they are all filled with fun stuff for our children. There is even a dating service for any teacher that might feel the urge J The other sites are www.mavensearch.com and www.torahtots.com . Todah Rabah Meir and Susan.
