Friday, February 7  at 6:30 PM – Celebrate Shabbat Shirah!

Join Cantor Evan Kent along with Rabbis Nathan and Yergin and Cantor Berlin in a joyous and engaging Shabbat Evening Worship service.  Cantor Kent will present a Sermon-in-Song.

 

Saturday, February 8 at 10:30 AM – Shabbat Morning Worship

Cantor Kent will join Rabbi Yergin and Cantor Berlin for Shabbat Morning worship and will lead a text study about the Song of the Sea.

 

7:00 PM – Shards: Putting the Pieces Together: A One Man Show

Cantor Evan Kent will present his one man show which chronicles his Aliyah to Jerusalem from Los Angeles in 2013 and his grandparents’ immigration from Russia to the United States at the beginning of the 20th Century. Through song, storytelling, and a bit of puppetry, we get to meet his grandparents and learn of their perilous journey from Russia to Ellis Island. Share in a unique and engaging evening of music and storytelling.

 

Sunday, February 9 at 9:30 AM – Sunday Scholars Series- The Distorted Mirror of History

Through the lens of S.Y. Agnon’s story “The Tale of the Goat,” Cantor Kent will lead us in a discussion of how the stories we tell about our families and ourselves change and are modified over time.

 

Evan Kent serves on the faculty of Hebrew Union College in Jerusalem. For 25 years he was the cantor at Temple Isaiah in Los Angeles, CA. In addition to his ordination as cantor from HUC-JIR, he has a doctorate in music education from Boston University.
