Following services – Tashlich at Woodlawn Park
In Hebrew, tashlich means “casting off.” Tashlich is a ceremony in which Jews go to a body of water, such as a river, stream or ocean, to cast away their sins by symbolicallytossing bread into the water. This physical act inspires us to remember our actions, right our wrongs and re-focus ourselves for the new year. The origins of Tashlich are uncertain. It does not appear in the Talmud and it seems to have begun in the middle ages, inspired by Micah 7:19, which reads, “God will take us back in love/ God will cover up our iniquities/ God will hurl all our sins into the depth of the sea.”
