Cantor Sharon Kohn

Cantor Sharon Kohn (pronounced ‘kahn’) will be joining Temple Beth-El as our Interim Cantor for the 2023-2024 fiscal year.

Cantor Kohn received her Ordination from Hebrew Union College-Jewish Institute of Religion’s Debbie Friedman School of Sacred Music. While she has served as a full-time cantor to congregations in Houston, Cincinnati, and Kansas City, Cantor Kohn has returned to her love of serving congregations in transition as their Interim Cantor.

Kohn’s academic background includes a Bachelor of Music in Voice Performance and a Master of Sacred Music. She has completed four units of CPE. She has training in Kodaly, as a facilitator for Sacred Aging, and in spiritual emergency response. The cantor is an alumna of the Institute for Jewish Spirituality’s first clergy cohort, and she continues her work with IJS.

Sharing the beauty of Jewish music and the enduring values of living a Jewish life are the primary motivators of Cantor Kohn’s life work. She loves encouraging musical congregants to express themselves in Jewish contexts.

Cantor Kohn is married to Rick Simon. They parent 4 children and are blessed with 9 grandchildren. She enjoys fiber arts, weeding other people’s gardens, and playing in the kitchen.
