Ellen Barshop

Ellen Barshop (she/her) was born in Jacksonville, Florida and arrived in San Antonio in 1976. Her early years were spent observing her parents’ involvement in the San Antonio and Jewish community.

Ellen served as the Co-Chair of the Early Childhood Committee at the JCC and the Vice-President of Education of Congregation Agudas Achim and since 2007, she has worked as an educator and an Instructional Coach in the San Antonio Independent School District. In addition, she directed the San Antonio Holocaust Memorial Museum and Community Relations Council from 2016-2019. She has an undergraduate degree in Business Administration and a graduate degree in Educational Leadership and Policy.

Her volunteerism includes developing experiences for students from across San Antonio to explore and learn about the local and global community through acts of service, leadership, and travel.

Ellen’s children Lauren, Lyric, Danielle, Noah, Kayla and Melody, and her grandchildren Alexander and Liam inspire her to make education more accessible, relevant, and enjoyable. She looks forward to lending her experiences and talent as she learns and grows with the Temple Beth-El community.
